Congratulations are in order for Nigerian track athlete, Blessing Okagbare, and one of a kind Lady Boss. According to Punch News, the trailblazer broke a 22-year-old record, with an impressive 22.04secs in her 200m race at the Wes Kittley Invitational Track and Field Meet, Abilene Christian University. Mary Onyali set the previous record of 22.07 seconds at a Meet in Switzerland in 1996.
Born in 1988, the young athlete started participating in sports after her teachers noticed her impressive physique. She would go on to win several awards at international track-and-field competitions including the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (100m race) and the 2015 All-African Games in Brazzaville (4x100m relay).
She is set to compete at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. We’ll be watching!
